ABOUT ME

BEHIND THE CANVAS
Hello there, my name is Alayna Eiting and I was born in Brea, California, and moved to Utah at a young age. I graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, emphasizing in painting and drawing. I received the Carmen Morten Christiansen scholarship award two years in a row, I recieved the Faculty Merit Award in the 2015 Annual Student Art Exhibition, and I was nominated for the E. J. Bird scholarship in 2014. I have also been fortunate enough to exhibit my work in several art shows in Salt Lake City.
Most of my work is centered around portraiture, although I enjoy painting many other subjects and landscapes. My aim with portraiture is to capture a contemporary version of Romanticism, or in other words, to paint an idealized version of the subject matter through color and texture. I accomplish this using warm color palettes, and oil paint to create a rich sensuous feeling on the canvas. With my landscapes I use much broader brushstrokes to allow for more texture to come through to the surface. Beauty and pleasure are what I aim to translate to the viewer.
